US Empire Decline Watch

I don't know if Duterte is serious; but if he does push away every single US military facility from the Philippines, that's basically giving China the South China sea. All of it. Who would've thought that, 5 years ago?

Next step is finding some South Korean Duterte who expels all US troops from the Asian mainland. That should happen in less than 10 years, if China has any power at all. Japan would be trickier, but Okinawa is not that much of a threat. At any rate, the USG is going to lose its dominion of the Western Pacific very fast. And once that's over...

    • China could remove Kim and create a Manchukuo type puppet state that makes nice with a renewed SK Sunshine Policy push. What would keep the 30,000 US troops there if the Kimless Norks make nice with ROK?

    • Should be an interesting litmus test for the underlying loyalties of the neolib cabal. I strongly suspect most are bought into China as center of the new geopolitical paradigm; however, zionists might waffle with China seeing Iran as keystone to their neo silk road.

      • Given how Iran hates the saudis too, not that hard to see Israel's leadership deciding to work with them. Of course, given the current trend towards neocon/jihadi/saudi alignment this just gets you Israel AT BEST getting on USG's shitlist, assuming it doesn't join Iraq and Libya as another secular regime bombed flat by USG then replaced by islamists.

    • It has been suggested that he was China's guy all along. Maybe you said it. I thought I had written about Duterte (and linked to whoever it was) but I can't find it now.

      • Oh please. China won't take over in 10 years. I'm not defending the U.S. empire either, no one wants to see the U.S. reign in the military more than me but this is ridiculous.

        • In Korea? Of course they will.

          • But if they do it won't be because of China's Fu Manchu machinations but rather S Koreans' anti-American Cathedral brainwashing. It might be in its late stages but it's still the American century. (And I'm not quite convinced the next one's Chinese, either).

            • China threatening to starve South Korea's business over there must surely exert some influence. China won't be the world hegemon; they're not universalist. But they do want real independence and that requires them to dominate their "near abroad", as the Russians put it.

            • But wouldn't that leave them nuked.

              reply
              • As in North Korea nuking them? Dubious but possible. At any rate, it seems doubtful that NK will actually come to blows if they don't feel as threatened. They will continue to tinpot over their brainwashed people. It'll be nice to say that China could rein them in then, but it really does seem like NK has managed to be able to accumulate the appropriate "f u" weaponry to all major nations. In a way, its almost admirable.

          • Let's see what will happen. There is often a gap between talking and doing, especially if a ruler does the talking. But talking is often the first step of change, so this indeed suggests US empire decline.

            • Saw BIRTH OF THE DRAGON today. The wise Shaolin guy who ends up fighting Bruce Lee explains to the dumb but nice American kid (who ends up with a beautiful smart Chinese girlfriend who knows chi-controlling pressure-points) that Kung Fu is the Chinese atom bomb -- but Kung Fu represents the power of life while the atom bomb represents the power of death.

Does he really think living in a world run for the benefit of Chinese Communist Party bosses will be an improvement over one run for the benefit of Wall Street and Silicon valley tycoons? The enemy of my enemy can also be my enemy.

                    reply
                    • "Just East Asia" Hope it stays that way. But then they seem to be meddling in South East Asia picking fights with the Vietnamese as well. Pretty soon, Just East Asia might include South Asia and India as well. Much as I dislike being dominated by Chinese, I'd rather be dominated by Chinese than by Muslims. Independence rocks, but if we are thinking India will get dominated by some foreign power anyway, I'd rather it be the Japanese. At least like us, they are polytheists with hundreds of Gods. They might save us from Chinese Legalism as well as the virus of monotheism.

                      • Southeast Asia is totally going to be Chinese turf. No question about it. And Australia better get nukes fast. I don't think China is interested in India besides making sure they're stronger than you.

                        • According to "geoba:se" (what comes up first when you google "[country name] 2017 statistics and rankings") China 2017 -- 1.57 births per woman, population 1.37 billion Vietnam 2017 -- 1.81 births per woman, population 96 million. Philippines 2017 -- 2.94 births per woman, 113.5 million people. So Vietnamese are more fertile than Chinese now, although still below replacement. Are Vietnamese as bright (on average) as Italians? If so, China would only dominate Vietnam to the extent that Vietnam wants to be dominated (as with the USA and Italy). There are going to be a lot of Philippinos in 2050. Are Phillipinos brighter (on average) than Mexicans? In the video, Duterte seems to me to be mainly addressing a complaint to the USA and saying, "If you guys [Americans] aren't more helpful we might be tempted to look elsewhere; come on, guys, be more helpful." His facial expressions and vocal tone resemble those of a Mexican/Central American more than those of a Chinese man. His natural orientation would be toward the USA.

                          • I wouldn't say the Viets are as bright as the Italians. And the figures I have say 1.7 for China. But neither the TFR nor IQ has anything to do with it. Size has everything to do with it. The US doesn't dominate Italy because Italy wants to. The US military invaded Western Europe in 1945, and they're still around. And what's this "facial expression" theory of political affinity? Duterte hates the US, hates Christianity, and has made no secret of the fact.
